MatTek Corporation today announced that the company’s board of directors has appointed Alex Armento as president effective immediately.
At 34, Armento is the youngest leader in the company’s history. A native of Bristol, Connecticut, Armento graduated from Central Connecticut State University with a master’s degree in biomolecular sciences. He began at MatTek in 2008 and held positions as a laboratory scientist and sales and marketing manager before becoming the director of business development in 2012. Armento’s outstanding performance in the role of director of business development served as the catalyst to MatTek’s continued growth. The combination of Armento’s scientific and business acumen has prepared him to succeed in his new position and continue MatTek’s success as an industry leader in tissue engineering.
“Alex has been an exceptional asset to MatTek since he first joined the company ten years ago,” said Bob Cohen, MIT Professor of Chemical Engineering Emeritus, a MatTek co-founder and member of the company’s board of directors. “His leadership abilities and scientific background combined with his talent for identifying new markets and opportunities for growth clearly made him the best candidate to lead the company. We are all excited for Alex to succeed in his new position and he has the unanimous support of the board.”
